One dead, three rescued after trailer crashes at Kariminga

One person has died and three others have been rescued following a road traffic crash involving a Takoradi–Burkina Faso bound trailer truck at Kariminga in the North East Region on Thursday, June18.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service, it received a distress call at 9:48 am and deployed a rescue team from the Upper East Regional Headquarters Sub-Station, led by STNO I Bright Atimbiok with a six-member crew. The team arrived at 10:21 am.

On arrival, four occupants, three males and one female, were found trapped in the severely mangled trailer head. The three male victims were successfully rescued and transported by the National Ambulance Service to the Upper East Regional Hospital for treatment. The female occupant was found dead at the scene and handed over to the Police.

The operation was supported by the Bolgatanga Municipal Commander, DO II Callistus Nibunu, and other senior officers.

Preliminary findings indicate that the trailer, carrying Twyford tiles from Takoradi to Burkina Faso, veered off the road after a tricycle reportedly crossed its path. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver swerved into a ditch and crashed into several trees, causing extensive damage to the trailer head and destroying most of the cargo. Some boxes of tiles were salvaged.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.
