Osu Children’s Home surviving on donor support

The Osu Children’s Home in Accra has not received any government subsidy since January this year. Consequently, the home, which houses about 157 children, has had to survive on donations by benevolent individuals and organisations.

The Manager of the home, Mrs Sharon Abbey, in an interview, said the situation was adversely affecting the activities of the home.

She spoke to the Daily Graphic after the management of China International Water and Electrical Corporation (CWE) had donated a consignment of items worth GH¢25,000 to the home.

The items included laptops, refrigerators, printers, 32 LED TVs and 3000-litre poly tank, gas cookers, microwaves, ceiling fans, balls, plastic chairs and tables, among other items.

“We are managing. We rely on the donations we receive,” was the answer Mrs Abbey gave when asked how the home was able to feed the children.

Deputy Manager of CWE

Presenting the items, the Deputy Manager of CWE, Mr Weiqiang Wang, said the organisation was committed to the development of Ghana and its citizenry.

“The future of the country lies in the children, so investment in children is actually investment in the country’s future,” Mr Wang added.

The Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Mr Benjamin Otoo, lauded the CWE for its support.
