Papaye thanks dedicated staff

The Quality Assurance Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mr Alex Boakye, has raised serious concerns about reports that some fast food joints served unwholesome food to the public because of the power rationing exercise.

To deal with the situation, he said the GTA would embark on an intensive training programme to educate and sensitise workers in the hospitality industry to service delivery and food handling.

Mr Boakye expressed the concern at a staff excellence and long-service awards ceremony of Papaye Fast Food Limited in Accra yesterday.

Meanwhile, he has advised players in the industry to find alternative means of preserving their food stocks to ensure that their customers did not suffer food poisoning and other consequences.

On quality assurance, Mr Boakye said the GTA had received numerous complaints from individuals about the sluggish attitude some members of staff of the hospitality industry exhibited when attending to customers.

He urged the hospitality industry to improve on productivity and deliver quality services to its customers.

He, however, commended Papaye for the quality of its service to customers and its consistency in paying the one per cent tourism levy for the improvement of the tourism industry.

Ceremony

Forty out of a staff of 350 in the three branches at Osu, Spintex and Tesano were honoured for their hard work and dedication to the company.

Mr Samuel Alhassan, who had worked with Papaye for nine years, was adjudged the overall best worker for 2014, for his selfless contribution to the development of the company.

While 10 members of staff  who had served for 15 years were awarded with cash and a refrigerator each, three others received cash and deep freezers for working with the company for 20 years.

Twenty-three others who had served for 10 years were presented with 32-inch television sets each and cash. Three workers who had served the company for five years, were also given special awards.

Presenting the awards, the Editor of the Daily Graphic, Mr Ransford Tetteh, urged the staff of the company to continue the dedication and hard work they had demonstrated to the company over the years.

He advised the other workers to emulate the good works of the award winners, adding that when they did, their efforts would also be recognised in due time.

Power crisis

In a chat, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Papaye, Mr Divine Asiedu, expressed optimism that the awards would motivate and encourage the staff to work harder to improve productivity.

On the current power situation and its effect on food preservation, he said: “Although the current power crisis is seriously affecting our business, we ensure that our cold rooms are fully powered to store all our foodstuffs well.”

Mr Asiedu added that the company had engineers who serviced the cold rooms constantly to ensure they did not break down.

In his address, the Deputy General Secretary of the Industrial Workers Union, Mr Emmanuel Benimah, said the power crisis had reduced productivity in most organisations and appealed to the government to help organisations with some fuel to power their machines to enhance productivity.
