The items included pampers, toiletries, 21 bags of rice, cooking oil, tins of milo, Cerelac and milk. A medical screening was also held for the children and the workers of the home.

According to the founder of the orphanage, Madam Emma Yeboah, the facility, which houses abandoned and needy children, provides free basic education for the inmates.

Financial difficulties

Madam Yeboah, however, said the management was currently facing difficulties in raising resources to cater for the needs of 13 students from the home, who have gained admission to various public senior high schools (SHS) in the country.

She added that each of the students needed at least GH¢700 to enable them to start their education this academic year. She appealed to the public to support the children to further their education to the SHS and the tertiary levels.

She explained that the children in the home were mostly from Social Welfare Department, the Police Service and hospitals and that the management of the home depended on revenue from its small-scale business in soya beans and donations to run the facility.

“The home has a farm and we are involved in agriculture to meet some of our financial obligations and also to ensure adequate food for the inmates”, she stated.

Social services

According to the Resident Pastor of the Kokomlemle PIWC, Reverend Daniel Sackey, the donation formed part of activities marking the church’s social service week, which is marked every year.

“As a church we believe that supporting these vulnerable young people is just to demonstrate that we Ghanaians have the ability to solve the challenges and issues we face.”
