The Mad Duck unfolds as a series of connected stories which revolve around the theme of ‘personal exploration and inquiry’, and looks at the means by which a person can live a fully expressed, rich-experience life, and the book is also an inspirational story on ‘how to live your best life’.

“In The Mad Duck, I also use many examples from my own life, which has been adventurous, unpredictable, exciting and instructive. I’ve learned that when you open yourself up to the world, the world opens up to you,” Princess Hatiyya, who quit her banking job to dedicate herself to promote the cause of the underprivileged in society, told the Daily Graphic shortly after the launch of the book in Accra recently.

She said 10 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of the books would go to the PUH Foundation, a charity organisation dedicated to building primary schools in deprived communities.

She said the book also carried the lives of both historical and contemporary figures who took great risks, flirted with chance and forged their own fates in order to discover precisely what they were made of.

“As you will read in various sections of The Mad Duck, I find travel to be one of the most stimulating things a person can do. Seeing the people and places of the world is an endless exploration of knowledge, culture and adventure — it is a key to a richer life,” she said.

The launch

Rev. Dr Joyce Aryee of the Salt and Light Ministries launched the book at a well-attended event that attracted people from all walks of life.

According to Princess Hatiyya, The Mad Duck is available in all leading bookshops across the country.
