Police arrest 4 suspected killers

Four persons have been arrested in connection with the killing of a wayside fuel dealer at Kotwi, near Kumasi on Wednesday dawn.

The four were arrested upon a tip off following a fight over the sharing of a bootie at their hideout at Asafo BB, a place known to harbour prostitutes and criminals in the Kumasi metropolis.

According to the police, a fight ensued among the members who were said to have returned from an armed robbery expedition and were sharing the loot based on the role each played during the robbery.

Suspects

The suspects are Kofi Emmanuel 22, a food vendor who has been identified by the widow to be one of the robbers who killed the husband; Kwadw Addai alias Chief, 18, a driver’s mate; Moses Atoa, 19, a Porter and Sadat Mohammed alias Survivor, 22. 

Items retrieved on them included eight mobile phones, two dongles, a memory card and ladies’ jewelleries.

A fifth suspect believed to be financier of the robbers only known as Power, has also been arrested.

Briefing 

Briefing the press, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Osei Kwaku Ampofo Duku, said following the murder of the victim on Wednesday, the police deployed men to be on the lookout for the suspects.

He said it was during the investigations that the police picked up information that the suspects were fighting among themselves over the sharing of the bootie and the various roles played by the members during the ‘expedition’.

He said the police quickly moved and apprehended the suspects. He said one of them had his ear bitten during the fight.

According to Mr Ampofo Duku, one of them has since been identified by the widow of the deceased as one of the three young men who came to rob and kill her husband.

He said the victims were yet to identify the phones retrieved from them to ascertain if they were the ones stolen from the robbery.

Meanwhile the police have declared two believed to be financiers and buyers of the stolen items from the robbers wanted.

They are Papa Djan, a firewood seller at Asafo and a resident of Adiebeba and one Kwaku Ababe, believed to be a robbery accomplice.

According to the police, Power, one of the suspects arrested as the one who has been buying the stolen electronic items from the robbers, mentioned Papa Djan, as the one who has been financing the suspects to embark on the robberies and later buy the items from them.

The police have therefore appealed to the public to help apprehend the suspect and to assist the police in its investigations.

Background 

Anthony Drobo, 42, was in the early hours of Wednesday shot and killed in his wooden structure by three suspected armed robbers. They also made away with unspecified sum of money and six mobile phones.

The incident occurred at around 2:30 am when the robbers barged into the victim’s room and shot him in the right time while demanding that he brought out the money.

A machete the deceased tried to use to defend himself was used to slash him before he was hit at the back of his head with a stick, killing instantly.

His body has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
