Police arrest two people for smuggling explosives

Two people have been arrested in the Eastern region for attempting to smuggle explosives.

The suspects, Ransford Akwasi Nuamah, 40, and Kwabena Asare, 31, were arrested by the Suhum Police on Friday.

They were said to have smuggled the products, which included Ammonium nitrate to Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

Police interrogation uncovered that the explosives were stolen from the Peabo quarry site which has been condoned off following an explosion on Wednesday which killed one person and injured 13 others.

Deputy Eastern regional Police Public Relations officer Sgt. Gideon Boateng confirmed the arrests to Accra based Starr FM  and said the suspects are being detained at the Nsawam Police station.

Meanwhile, the Police have declared the alleged owner of the explosive at the quarry site Adams Kofi Yeboah wanted.
