Police grab three men for engaging in a gold scam
Three men have been arrested for allegedly engaging in a gold scam and defrauding two foreigners.

They are Stephen Kwadwo Nana Korankye, 49; Emmanuel Mawulawor Kwesi, 57, and Godwin Adebayor Mortey, 34.
The three are said to have told the police they were businessmen, but investigations proved that they were fraudsters.
Korankye, who is said to be the leader of the group, has been on the police wanted list since September 2012 when he jumped bail.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr Prosper K. Agblor, said the suspects had swindled a Korean businessman of $250,920 and a Nigerien of 35 million CFA.
He said on September 4, 2012, Korankye was arrested by the Documentation and Visa Fraud Section (DVS) of the CID for defrauding a Korean businessman whose name had been withheld, under the pretext of supplying him with six kilogrammes of gold.
While investigations were ongoing, Mr Agblor said, Korankye, who had been granted police enquiry bail and asked to report periodically, jumped bail.
Money in box
He said on June 4, 2016, the police received another report from a Nigerien businessman who complained that he had been duped by Korankye and his two accomplices.

He said the complainant told the police that he had received a call from Korankye, who claimed he had received a box of money which had been shipped from Libya to Ghana and meant for the Nigerien.

Mr Agblor said Korankye had claimed that the box of money was in his custody and requested that the Nigerien businessman pay a handling fee of 35 million CFA.
The Nigerien is said to have sent the money to Korankye, but Korankye failed to deliver the box and later demanded an additional 160 million CFA before he would release the box of money.
At that point, the Nigerien became suspicious and reported the matter to the police.
Mr Agblor said the Nigerien assisted the police to arrest Korankye from his hideout at Gbawe in Accra, where the police also arrested Kwesi and Mortey, who are believed to be Korankye’s accomplices.
He advised the public to be vigilant and not fall prey to suspicious characters who approached them with juicy business offers.
