Police hunt for wounded armed robber

The police are hunting for a suspected armed robber and his accomplice who escaped arrest at Amrahia near Adenta in Accra after an attempted robbery.

The suspects were said to have exchanged gunshots with one of their victims in his house after an unsuccessful attempts to break in.

One of the victims, who fired at one of the suspects, also sustained gunshot wounds on his arm.

He is currently on admission at the Police Hospital in Accra.

The police retrieved a pistol, 10 pieces of live ammunition, a steel cutter, three empty shells and a live cartridge at the scene.

Exchange of shots

The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendant of Police Ms Afra Tenge, said the incident happened at about 2:00am on October 10, 2014.

She said one of the victims, reported that two armed men tried to break into their room.

According to the PRO, the husband of the complainant, who had a licensed gun, fired a warning shot but the robbers engaged him in a shootout.

“In the process,  the victim shot one of the robbers, but he escaped with his accomplice.”

Another break in

Ms Tenge said another victim, reported that four armed men tried to break into her apartment that same day.

The victcim, who lives in the same neighbourhood, was also taken hostage together with some family members.

The Regional PRO said the suspects ransacked the apartment and took away three mobile phones, two laptops, a Mitsubishi Pajero ignition key and GHc800 and $100 cash.

She advised the public and health facilities to be on the lookout for anyone with gunshot wounds who sought healthcare.
