VIDEO: Ghana Police caught on camera taking bribe from motor riders near Côte d’Ivoire border in Bono Region

A video showing some Ghana police officers taking money from motorists near the Ghana - Cote d’Ivoire border in the Bono Region has prompted swift action from the Regional Police Command, leading to the interdiction of three officers involved.

In the video, which has been widely circulated online, several officers are seen stopping motorcyclists and engaging them in conversations that appear to involve the exchange of cash.

One officer is heard asking a motorist, why he did not buy coke (coca cola) for him, as others laugh in the background.

Another officer, is heard telling a rider I’m standing under the hot sun, “I was sent here; I didn’t come on my own. If they’ve sent you, I’ve also been sent.” Moments later, a motorist is seen handing over what looks like money to the officers.

In another scene, an officer tells a rider that his speedometer was at 70 and that his motorbike would be seized for lacking customs papers.

In the same footage, another motorist hands over what appears to be a GH¢100 note and receives GH¢50 as a change from the police man while requesting a receipt. The officer laughs and tells him to “come later for it.”

The guy queried that without a receipt when he meet other police officers again at the spot, they will demand another money. The officer in return tells him to inform whoever questions him that he has already sorted the team that was there in the morning out. [Watch the attached video below].

Reacting to the incident, the Bono Regional Police Command said in a statement issued on October 29, 2025, that the officers seen in the video had been identified and interdicted.

Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said the interdiction would allow for a thorough and impartial investigation.

He said the Command viewed the conduct captured in the video as unprofessional and inconsistent with police standards.

He added that the service was determined to promote accountability and maintain public confidence.

Mr Akeelah urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue, assuring that the outcome would be made public in due course.
