The Ghana Cocoa Board ( COCOBOD) is financing the project at $150 million annually for the next five years.
At Adeiso in the Upper West Akim District in the Eastern Region where he performed the ceremony, President Mahama said good roads were critical to enhancing economic development.

‘’That is why the government is working to improve roads across the country’’, he added.
State of Nation address

In his 2015 State of the Nation address to Parliament, the President said COCOBOD was going to finance the cocoa roads rehabilitation programme.

A number of roads in the cocoa growing regions, he said, were to be improved under the programme.
Among the roads being tackled in the Eastern Region are Apedwa-Kyebi-Bunso, Adeiso-Asamankese, Kyebi town roads, Suhum town roads and Asonase-Akwatia.
President Mahama said during the electioneering, he noticed the bad nature of the roads in the Eastern Region.

Later, after his victory in the elections, he made a promise to fix the roads.
He said the government would continue to spend national resources judiciously to improve the lot of the people.

Chieftaincy disputes

President Mahama called for an end to the chieftaincy dispute at Asamankese.
He said the dispute was worrying as it retarded development.
The President commended the district assembly for the many development projects it was undertaking.

Regional Minister

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, in a welcoming address, said the region was appreciative of the numerous ongoing road projects.

The Adeisohene, Osabarima Asare Oduro, said the chiefs and people of Adeiso were overwhelmed by the numerous development projects the communities in the area had enjoyed under President Mahama.
"We will never forget you," he said of the President.
