A statement issued by Head of Communications and Presidential Spokesperson Ben Dotsei Malor, quoted President Mahama as saying that “President Sata’s death creates a sense of loss in Zambia and leaves the people in a situation that many Ghanaians can identify with, considering the sudden death of President Atta Mills two years ago.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sata family and people of Zambia at this difficult time,” the president added.

President Sata died at a hospital in the UK on Tuesday night where he was seeking medical care.

According to President Mahama, the late Zambian leader demonstrated that anyone could rise from humble beginnings to the highest office of the land through passion, persistence and deep patriotism.

He said President Sata may have changed party affiliations a number of times but stayed true to his political convictions as a social democrat and to his commitments as a public servant.

President Mahama, on his own behalf and on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, extended deep sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Sata, and to the Government and people of Zambia.
