President Mahama said the ability of the commander to seek help from the private sector to develop the regional headquarters was worthy of emulation by others in the pursuit of development in the country.

The President who paid a surprise visit to the regional command to appraise himself with developments at the regional command, described the place as “the most beautiful police regional headquarters in the country.”

The president was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong and the Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu.

Also in the entourage was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Brigadier General Joseph Adu Boampong and the Commanding Officer of the Fourth Infantry Battalion (4BN), Lieutenant Colonel Fuseini Salifu.

Mr Mahama stressed the need for public/private partnerships in the building of the country as it was becoming difficult for the government alone to shoulder the infrastructural development of the country.

He inspected the new ultra-modern 250-seater conference hall which was recently commissioned by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and later signed the book of visitors.

The president who was impressed with the level of development at the regional headquarters, commended DCOP Boakye, who is also known as Commander One, for his style of leadership which he said was yielding good results for the region and the Police Service.

DCOP Boakye assumed the command of the region in February this year and has since brought a lot of transformation to the command.

Through his initiative, the police have been able to wall the regional headquarters, replaced all louvre windows into glazed glass and tiled the whole place.

The conference hall was put up through the commander’s initiative with support from corporate bodies in the region.

He is also putting up a 20-bed police clinic through public private partnership.
