Alleged Abduction: Radio presenter transferred to CID Headquarters; boyfriend invited

The Takoradi-based radio presenter at the centre of an alleged kidnapping and sexual assault has been transferred to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Accra to assist in further investigations.

The decision, taken on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, followed preliminary police investigations which established that she stage-managed the whole drama ostensibly to extort money from her parents and her boyfriend.

A highly placed source at the Western Regional Command disclosed this to the Daily Graphic at Sekondi yesterday.

The source said it was established that the alleged victim was not a Nigerian, but a full-blooded Ghanaian from Akim Awisa in the Eastern Region.

It has also been established that the radio presenter lodged at a hotel near the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra to stage-manage the sexual assault drama.

The pictures, it was said, were uploaded onto the social media platform at an Internet cafe near the Zongo Junction.

Meanwhile, the boyfriend of the lady, Rahman Noonoo, a Takoradi-based businessman, has been invited to the Police Headquarters in Accra to help with investigations.

Abduction

The presenter was said to have gone missing for almost a week and appeared about 12:30. a.m. on Monday and was rushed to the GPHA Hospital in Takoradi.

That followed social media publication of her pictures that went viral with the story that she had been abducted and sexually assaulted by unknown persons for the fifth time in less than two years.

The police said they had recorded five incidents of abduction involving the victim within the last two years and that the incident before this latest one had been reported in February, 2015.

They said before she went missing last week, police intelligence picked information that she was to be reported missing  but would later emerge with a case of kidnaping and assault.

The case involving the victim attracted public sympathy and her employers, Global Media Alliance, owners of YFM, put out her name and asked the public to help find her.

Her alleged abductors reportedly sexually assaulted her and took pictures of the act, which they posted on Facebook. Some of the pictures have also been circulating on Whatsapp.

Victim

Earlier at the hospital yesterday, the victim, according to medical doctors, showed much improvement but was yet to respond to queries from the team put together to help her.

According to the team, she was yet to make any serious statement or recall exactly what happened to her and where she had been taken.

Nigeria connection

The lady is said to have adopted a Nigerian name to host her programme.  She speaks Nigerian pidgin flawlessly.

Doubts

Meanwhile, the victim’s boyfriend has expressed doubt about the victim’s claims and her alleged instances of rape, saying that on many occasions she had failed to co-operate with him to unravel the mystery surrounding her claims.

In an interview with the media yesterday, Noonoo said after every one of her alleged kidnapping and rape cases, the victim gave suspicious accounts of what exactly happened to her and who masterminded them.

He said while the victim claimed, on her return home last Tuesday, that she had walked from Mankessim to her Tanokrom residence in Takoradi, the supposed kidnappers had sent him a message on his handset that since they could not find the way to his house, they had left her naked on the street.

No cash demands

“I woke up about 12:30 a.m. after I had received a message that her bag containing her clothes is in front of my door. I must say that in all four cases and the current one the supposed kidnappers didn’t make any cash demand or give reasons for kidnapping her.

“I must also say that from the victim’s accounts, the supposed kidnappers are always the same group of people — the only thing that changes is the mobile phone number they use,” he said.

He said before an alleged kidnapping incident last February, the victim had informed him and his friends that she was going to Accra and that her phones would be off.

“Interestingly, the ‘kidnappers’ called my phone telling me that they were sitting two seats behind the victim in the same bus and were ready to abduct her,” he said.

According to Noonoo, he and his friends had tried unsuccessfully to call her phone, but later in the evening he received a text message from the supposed kidnappers that she was in their custody.

Mystery

He said it still remained a mystery as to how the kidnappers got to know where the victim was travelling to for them to be able to kidnap her.

“In that instance, the kidnappers claimed that they had finished with her days later and asked us to go for her at Mpamprom in Accra.

“We moved from Takoradi and within two minutes I had another message, this time from the victim herself, that she was at Kaneshie under the overhead bridge.

“To be honest with you, when I saw her there, there was nothing wrong with her. When I asked her how she found herself there, she got angry and only claimed that she had been kidnapped and raped,” he said.

“I was surprised because how on earth could you be kidnapped and raped, only for your kidnappers to take you to a crowded place such as Kaneshie and you do not shout for help? In fact, I doubt her claims,” he added.
