This was contained in a statement signed by the chairman who is also the Northern Regional Minister. It was in reaction to the recent clashes between the youth of the two feuding factions Abudu and Andani in the protracted Dagbon Chieftaincy crisis.
Four persons were injured while two vehicles, houses and shops were burnt down in the disturbances last Monday evening.
Five persons who were arrested in connection with the disorder are assisting the police in Tamale in their investigations.
In the wake of the disturbances, the REGSEC on Tuesday deliberated on the issue and have come out with some measures to maintain the prevailing calm and also prevent any further escalation of the problem.
The committee tasked the police to pursue their investigations into the matter and ensure that all perpetrators are dealt with in accordance with the law.
“With immediate effect, barriers are to be mounted by the security agencies at all entry points into Yendi and searches conducted on all vehicles entering and leaving the municipality,” the statement added.
It further reminded the people that the ban on the possession and holding of arms and ammunition was still in force within the Yendi municipality and its environs.
“And security agencies will conduct searches on any suspected premises to retrieve any arms and ammunition that might be kept in those premises,” it stated.
The statement also made it clear that the Yendi Municipal Committee will continue to monitor development developments on the disturbances closely and “appropriate measures and decisions will be taken as deemed necessary.”
