Two female students of the Gyaaman Pensan Senior High/Technical School in the Kwabre East District in the Ashanti Region are receiving treatment at the Aboaso Government Hospital following riots by students of the school last Sunday night.

The students were protesting the cancellation of entertainment and sports activities on campus by the school authorities.

Four other students, who were injured in the disturbances were treated and discharged at the same hospital.

The headmaster of the school, Mr Kojo Yiadom-Boakye, and his teaching staff were locked up in a meeting when the Daily Graphic visited the school on Monday.

Early this month, Mr Yiadom-Boakye announced an indefinite cancellation of all entertainment and sports activities because of the negative image that such activities were giving the school.

In recent times, students of the school have engaged in a series of off-the-pitch clashes with other schools during inter-school competitions.

The students were also said to have gone beyond their limits during entertainment programmes on campus.

Riots

Angered by the announcement, some of the students, mainly males, stormed the headmaster and the Senior housemaster’s residences and destroyed a number of items, including smashing the windscreen of a mini 4x4 vehicle belongings to the headmaster.

They also damaged almost all the furniture in the dining hall and threatened non-teaching staff who tried to intervene.
