The contractor, Progressive and Modern Company Limited (PMC), was  last seen on site a year ago, a development the sector minister, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, described as unacceptable.

The project is part of the emergency works for the upgrading of the Ho-Adidome road to relieve travllers of the difficulties they encounter following the closure of the Adome Bridge for rehabilitation works.

The 14.8km contract, which was to have been executed within nine months, is now in its 50th month but the work is yet to be completed.

Two of the three contractors, Messrs Janicoff Ltd and Usuaya Ltd, were on site while the third one, Rolleger Ltd, had almost completed its contract.

Alhaji Fuseini, who issued the directive, said the attitude of the contractor had given the impression that the government was not concerned about the suffering of the travelling public, especially people from the Volta Region.

Rebuff

The Chief Executive Officer of PMC, Alhaji Abdallah Ahmed-Abdallah, however, explained that he decided to stop work temporarily because of the frustrations he went through in the hands of some engineers, stressing, "I will not continue with the work for me to die prematurely due to the attitude of some of the engineers."

Alhaji Abdallah-Ahmed added: "I have encountered a whole lot of problems for even doing a good job" stating that he was ready to meet with the minister as directed and it would be an opportunity for him to explain himself.

Usuaya Ltd

The Chief Executive Officer of  Usuaya Ltd, Alhaji Yussif Yakubu, however, gave an assurance that he would complete his project by December this year, as scheduled.

Alhaji Fuseini told the contractor it was important the legitimate expectations of the people in the region were  met to reduce the sufferings the people were going through.

Concerns of Volta Chiefs

Addressing the concerns of the chiefs and people of the Volta Region, the minister gave an assurance that the government was doing everything to ensure that the roads were motorable.

He said the government had paid the contractors every amount it owed them and stressed that there was no reason for the contractors’ to failure to work.

At both Adidome and Ho, the traditional leaders did not hide their frustration as they urged the minister to use his good offices to ensure that the promises made by President Mahama were fulfilled.
