The increment, if implemented, will also help pay the over GH¢250million owed road contractors across the country.
The Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Isaac Adjei-Mensah made this known Tuesday at a public forum on the Ghana Road Fund in Takoradi.
According to him, although the revenue generated into the Ghana Road Fund since 2000 has consistently increased from GH¢24.8 million to GH¢265.4 million in 2014, the current capacity of the Fund was able to sustain only 60 per cent of road maintenance needs.
He said a total of GH¢322.21 million was projected to accrue into the fund this year, adding that, it could only be achieved if new ways of generating revenue into the fund were devised.
“The time has come as a nation to take the difficult but inevitable decision of raising sufficient funds to meet our road maintenance bill,” he said.
