Some unknown persons at Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, suspected to be armed robbers, have killed a taxi driver.
The incident happened last Friday at an area known as American Farm at Nglehsie Amanfro.
The driver, identified only as Kwame, was said to have been shot and killed by four armed robbers who attacked him around 5 a.m. while he was on his way to work.
According to residents, the armed men, numbering four, who were riding two motorbikes, attacked the driver at the Roman School area.
He was walking at the time to pick a vehicle at a nearby lorry station to his destination when he was accosted by the killers.
The robbers demanded his bag, money and phone, but he refused and tried to engage them in a fight, but was shot in the rib.
One eyewitness said Kwame had stopped driving his taxi for some time now.
"He was working with one of the contractors working on the Kasoa-Winneba Road project," he said.
He explained that Kwame saw the robbers as small boys and decided to engage them in a fight.
Another resident said they heard the confrontation between Kwame and his killers, but because there were gunshots, everyone was afraid.
She said everyone was shocked at the incident because it was virtually in the morning, and everyone was moving about.
She said even though they took his items, she believed the issue was more than armed robbery.
