Security team deployed to maintain security at Buipe, Yapei bridges

A team of police and military detachment have been deployed to the Yapei bridge in the Central Gonja District of the Northern Region to provide security on the bridge.

This followed an attack by some residents of the area on some commercial drivers who forcibly removed the blockade mounted by the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to allow engineers working on the bridge to carry out rehabilitation works.

The commercial drivers and the residents according to information gathered by the Graphic Online forcibly opened the bridge for vehicles to use the bridge on Wednesday.

The poor condition of the Yapei and Buipe bridges all in the Northern region has necessitated a one month closure for emergency rehabilitation works to ensure safety on the two bridges.
