The Electricity Company of Ghana has scheduled planned and emergency maintenance exercises across two regions for Friday, 17th April 2026, even as engineers continue to battle multiple transformer faults that plunged scores of communities into darkness across the Accra West, Ashanti West, and Central Regions on Thursday.

According to advisories issued by the power distributor, the coordinated works are aimed at enhancing service reliability and addressing urgent network issues. The outages will commence at 9:00 am across affected areas, with durations varying depending on the scope of works to be carried out at each location.

In the Accra West Region, a planned maintenance exercise will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting Chorkor 31st, White House, Mamprobi Police Station, and surrounding areas. The eight-hour outage will impact these densely populated coastal communities as technicians undertake essential infrastructure upgrades.

Additionally, an emergency maintenance exercise will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, affecting Asonkore, Kwabenakwa, Taslima, Tewobaabe, Edubias, and surrounding areas.

These scheduled interventions come as the ECG continues to manage the aftermath of multiple transformer faults that struck on Thursday, 16th April 2026. In the Accra West Region, a transformer fault disrupted power to Stadium Road, Odi Ahinkae, Amasaman Hongkong, Abease, Icgc, Shalom Temple, Papaase Soldier Land, Treba high tension, parts of Hearts Park, and surrounding areas.

In the Ashanti West Region, a faulty transformer at Adiebeha near the Adiebeha Seventh Day Adventist Church left parts of Adiebeha and surrounding areas without power. The ECG assured affected customers that engineers were working assiduously to replace the faulty transformer and restore supply.

In the Central Region, a damaged transformer at TV 3, Iron City in the Kasoa South District affected TV 3 and surrounding areas. Engineers were deployed to replace the faulty transformer and restore normal supply.

In its public notices, the ECG extended its apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled maintenance and the unplanned transformer faults. The company reassured the public that engineers are working diligently to resolve all network issues while emphasising that the planned exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network across the regions.
