Student jailed 10 years for robbing colleagues

A 19-year-old junior high school student who robbed two students of their mobile phones and money has been slapped with a 10-year jail term.
Alhassan  Alidu was said to have committed the crime in the company of Baba Issah, a school drop-out, now at large.

He was charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced accordingly.

Inspector Oduro Boateng, the prosecutor, told the court, presided over by Mr William Boampong, that the complainants in the case are Kelvin Dery and Mercy Tan, both students residing at Kotei, a suburb of Kumasi.

According to the prosecutor, at about 10.30 p.m. on May 21, 2013, Dery was going to see Tan off to her house after attending a party.

He said on reaching the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology junction, they met Alidu and Issah who demanded that they surrender whatever item they had in their possession.

Inspector Boateng said Dery was   reluctant in giving out his wallet so Alidu pulled a knife from his pocket and  stabbed Dery in the jaw.

This action, Inspector Boateng said, scared Dery and Tan and they surrendered the two mobile phones and cash of GH¢150 after which the robbers bolted.

Later that night, Alidu was spotted  by Dery and Tan who caused his arrest.
