In view of this, employees of the company now work day and night as part of plans to complete the project ahead of the scheduled contract period of September 30, 2016.

The company is currently putting up finishing touches to the mechanical installation of water treatment plants and pressure-testing pipelines, after having completed their installation. It is also in the process of filling the compounds of the residential and administration buildings meant to house staff of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

The Project Manager of ARDA Grup, Mr M. Ediz Armador, made this known when he took the Daily Graphic round to inspect the progress of work on the Akyem Oda project last Monday.

He said the Exim Bank of Turkey was financing the project with an amount of $160 millions while the government of Ghana was providing an additional component of $5 million.

Mr Armador said so far, more than 82 per cent of the project had been completed and that the company was working hard to finish the remaining works ahead of schedule.

He stated that as part of the project, the company was constructing a 2,275,000 cubic metre dam on the Birim River at Oda, which is meant to serve several communities in the Birim Central municipality.

According to the project manager, the company had recruited 1,000 staff comprising 200 Turks and 800 Ghanaians.

He hinted that a number of skilled workers on the project would be retained by the GWC when it takes over upon completion of work.

Mr Armador said after handing over the project in August, 2016, staff of ARDA Grup would still stay at the project site for two more months to train workers of the GWCL to handle the project efficiently.

He said besides constructing the water project, the company had also put up eight two-bedroom residential flats at Oda; four two-bedroom flats  at Akwatia and Kade; three two-bedroom flats in Koforidua; two-bedroom flats at Winneba and two three-bedroom flats in Cape Coast for the GWCL.

In addition, he said the company had built district offices for the GWCL at Oda, Akwatia, Winneba and Elmina. Other offices had been built at Dansoman, Kwabenya and Ashaiman, all in the Greater Accra Region.

He stressed that ARDA Grup would not hand over its assets and liabilities to the GWCL as was erroneously reported by a section of the media.
