The children, Mansah Alado, seven, and Prince Atsu, four, died in the fire outbreak around 11.30 pm.

Three others, namely Atsukpui Alado, 30, a pregnant woman; Kweku Alado and Prince Alado, sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to the Koforidua Regional Hospital where they are currently on admission.

Confirming the incident to the Daily Graphic in Koforidua, Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr Yaw Nketia -Yeboah, said last Wednesday night, the police had information that there was a fire outbreak near the polytechnic.

He said both the regional and the New Juaben Municipal night patrol teams, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Adu Broni, proceeded to the scene and saw a mud house belonging to Mr Alado on fire.

He said all the victims were asleep in the same room when the incident happened and, therefore, the two deceased children could not escape.

He said the police after combing through the debris, saw the bodies of the two children, after which they were conveyed to the Koforidua Hospital for autopsy.

Mr Nketia -Yeboah appealed to the public and parents in particular to educate their children on the dangers of fire, especially during power outages when there was the need for usage of candles and other sources of light.

"Those who use mosquito coils and other forms of light should ensure that there are no combustible materials which could spark any fire," he added.

Meanwhile the cause of the fire is being investigated.

According to Dr Cardinal Newton, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, the condition of Kwaku Alado was critical as he had been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit.
