The beneficiaries, who were 70 years and above, were screened for various illnesses, including malaria, cholera, hypertension and diabetes by a team of medical personnel from Tobinco Pharmaceuticals and the G2 Laboratory.
They were also provided with free medication and offered counselling on healthy living.
The aged widows were later feted and given hampers provided by GM Addo and Sons and GN Products.
Purpose of exercise
The Chief Executive Officer of S & S Media Concept, co-organisers of the event, Mr Samuel Okine, said the initiative was the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) towards communities it operated in.
Mr Okine indicated that the company had taken it upon itself to organise the programme annually and called for support from other corporate institutions.
“In the coming years, we hope to extend this to other vulnerable persons in society, and will, therefore, need the support of corporate institutions,” he said.
He added that plans were in place to organise similar programmes during the Easter festivities this year.
Beneficiaries excited
The beneficiaries expressed excitement about the gesture, saying that a lot of them did not know they had some of the ailments detected during the screening.
They, therefore, appealed to the government and other stakeholders to pay particular attention to the health needs of the aged.
