UCC mourns senior lecturer, teaching assistant killed in road crash
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of a senior lecturer and his teaching assistant who were killed in a road accident on Tuesday.
Dr Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang of the Department of Geography and Regional Planning and his teaching assistant, Peter Amoadu-Asmah, died after they were reportedly crushed by a tipper truck at Third Ridge along the Cape Coast–Accra highway.
“The Management of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has received with profound shock and deep sorrow, the untimely passing of one of its distinguished faculty members, Dr. Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang and Mr. Peter Amoadu-Asmah, his teaching assistant,” a statement issued by the university said.
“Dr Agyemang, together with his Teaching Assistant, Mr. Peter Amoadu-Asmah, lost their lives in a tragic motor accident at Third Ridge, on the Cape Coast-Accra highway,” the statement added.
Tributes to dedicated academic, outstanding graduate
The statement, signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Dr Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, described Dr Agyemang as a dedicated academic and respected member of the university community, known for his contributions to teaching, research and service.
It noted that Mr Amoadu-Asmah, a National Service person and recent graduate of the department, distinguished himself as the overall best graduating student.
Call for sensitivity
The university extended condolences to the bereaved families and urged the public, particularly the media, to exercise restraint in reporting the incident.
“Management and the entire University community extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. The University of Cape Coast appeals to the public, especially the media, to be circumspect and sensitive in their reportage,” the statement said.

Dr Agyemang served as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geography and Regional Planning from February 2022 until his death in April 2026. He previously lectured in the department between October 2009 and January 2022.
He obtained his doctorate in Geography and Regional Planning from UCC in 2019, having earlier completed a master’s degree in the same field at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology between 1997 and 1999.
His professional career included roles as Senior Programme Officer at the Environmental Protection Agency from May 2000 to March 2005 and Development Planning Officer at the Atwima District Assembly from February 1996 to June 2000. He also served as Economics and Geography tutor with the Ghana Education Service from January 1993 to January 1996.
Dr Agyemang was the immediate past Senior Hall Tutor of Casely Hayford Hall as of July 31, 2025, and had earlier worked as Director of GreenDev Solutions Limited between May 2008 and September 2009.

Mr Amoadu-Asmah completed Methodist Senior High School between 2018 and 2021 before pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning at UCC from November 2021 to December 2025.
He undertook internships with the Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly in 2023 and 2024 and later served as a teaching assistant in the department from November 2025 until April 2026.
