The Upper East Regional Police Command has begun picking up a number of people for questioning.

This is part of investigations to enable the police to get clues that will lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators and accomplices behind the acid attack on the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Adams Mahama, whose remains were interred last Saturday.

The Public Relations Officer of the Upper East Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thomas Agbanyo, who confirmed this to the Daily Graphic in Bolgatanga yesterday, however, fell short of  mentioning the number of individuals picked up so far or disclosing their names.

He intimated that it would be too early to start mentioning the names of the individuals unless it was established, in the course of police investigations, that they were accomplices or the police had some fresh leads that they could follow.

Police on the ground

ASP Agbanyo explained that due to events leading to the death of the late chairman, the police had intensified their investigations and provided security for some regional executive members of the NPP.

He, however, stated that none of the executive members had lodged a complaint with the police regarding receiving any threats on their mobile phones.
