He said as part of measures to prevent the incidence of communicable diseases such as cholera, dysentery and typhoid fever across the region, Zoomlion, which is a private waste management company, would, in collaboration with the various district assemblies, intensify its disinfestation activities throughout the region.

Mr Ayamga, who led a team of sprayers from his outfit during a disinfestation exercise in the Wa municipality, said the exercise would target public places of convenience, institutional toilets, refuse container sites, dumping sites and urinals.

“We will also extend the exercise to other  places where harmful vectors are,” he said, and added that, “The main target is to get rid of houseflies and other harmful vectors as much as possible in the 11 districts of the region”.

The Wa Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr George Arthur, described the disinfestation exercise by Zoomlion as very helpful to the municipality and the  region.

He said the spraying would minimise the breeding of flies, cockroaches and other harmful vectors.

“It would also do away with the foul odour emanating from public places of convenience, refuse containers, refuse dumping sites and public urinals,” he added, and said it would also help to prevent the outbreak of diseases associated with harmful vectors.

A public education session was also carried out to sensitise people to the need to keep their environment clean.
