Gender Ministry refers Cape Coast assault video to police as victim remains missing
A viral video showing a man beating a woman in Cape Coast has been referred to the Ghana Police Service by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection for investigation, as efforts to locate the victim have not been successful.
The Ministry, in a statement issued on Sunday, March 29, 2026, said the footage, which has been widely shared on social media, shows a man assaulting a woman and inflicting further harm on her.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has formally referred the case to the Ghana Police Service for investigation and further action.
The Ministry said it had obtained a telephone number believed to belong to the victim, but all attempts to reach her have failed.
It condemned the incident and stated that violence against any person is unacceptable and punishable under the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732) and the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The Ministry has urged members of the public with information on the victim to contact the Helpline of Hope Call Centre on the toll free numbers 0800-800-800, 0800-900-900 and 0800-111-222.
