Western Pharmacy Limited supports KATH

Management of Western Pharmacy Limited has presented three 23’’ flat-screen television sets and three laptop computers to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. The items are intended to be given out as prizes to workers who have served the hospital for long periods and others who have proven to be most dependable.

The items worth GH¢23,000 were donated by the company in support of the hospital management’s programme to reward hardworking, loyal and dedicated medical and non-medical staff for their commitment and sacrifices which have seen the hospital improve upon healthcare delivery.

In all, 143 staff members including doctors and staff who have exhibited exemplary conduct in the years 2012 and 2013 would be honoured. The awards ceremony takes place on September 23 this year in Kumasi.

The Managing Director of Western Pharmacy limited, Mr Emmanuel Buabeng Berko, said both medical and non-medical staff of the hospital needed to be recognised for the sacrifices they make to save lives at the hospital. Under the circumstances, he said the company was very proud to be associated with the hospital’s workers’ awards ceremony.

He said the company had also pledged GH¢7,000 in support of the overall best worker. It was hoped that the amount would serve as enough motivation for the winner to press on harder.

He said healthcare work was one of sacrifices and as such it was pertinent that organisations enter into partnership with the government, management of hospitals and other health institutions to recognise hardworking staff for their services to the country.

The Acting Chief Executive of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Mr Offeh Gyimah, who received the gifts on behalf of the hospital awards committee, said the awards ceremony, which was held annually, suffered setbacks due to challenges the hospital faced.

He said he was hopeful now that with support, the hospital’s development partners like the Western Pharmacy limited, the efforts, contributions and sacrifices of the workers in the hospital would not go unnoticed.

Mr Gyimah stressed the need for society to appreciate and support medical staff in the country’s hospitals to encourage them to deliver quality healthcare for patients.
