Work on Akora River bridge ready next month
Work on the reconstruction of the damaged bailey bridge across the Akora River at Agona Swedru is expected to be completed next month.

So far, about 70 per cent of the work, including the delaunching of the bridge, painting of the panels, reinforcement of the chords and fixing of the middle pier, has been completed.
The remaining work includes the assembling and launching of the bridge, as well as the pedestrian walkway.
The Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Oppong, paid a familiarisation visit to inspect some ongoing projects at Swedru.

The Site Engineer of the Bridge Maintenance Unit of the Ghana Highway Authority, Mr Aaron Amponsah, told the media that the chunk of the work had been completed and, barring any challenges beyond their control, the 58.5-metre bridge should be ready for use by the first week of August.
According to him, with the construction of the middle pier which will make the bridge stable, motorists will start using the bridge to help reduce the traffic in the town.
Mr Oppong thanked the workers for their commitment towards the project, and assured them of the assembly’s support towards its completion.
He expressed worry about the heavy traffic jam in the town, especially on Mondays and Thursdays, and expressed optimism that the traffic would reduce when the project was completed.

As part of the visit, the MCE inspected work on the reshaping of 2.3-kilometre road from Greenland Hotel to Otabilkrom.
The GH¢139,000 World Bank-funded project is expected to be completed by December 2014.
He also inspected the reshaping of the 3.2-kilometre road from Nyamendam through Pentecost School to Pipe Tank, which is being executed at a cost of GH¢297,291.11.
