Workers mark day with parades, durbars

The country’s workers on Sunday joined their counterparts worldwide to celebrate this year’s May Day with colourful rallies, parades and durbars in all the 10 regions.

The event was marked on the theme: “Election 2016: The Role of Workers in Securing Peaceful Elections for National Development.”

The national celebration was held in Wa in the Upper West Region with a durbar which was addressed by President John Mahama and Mr Kofi Asamoah, the Secretary General of the Ghana Trades Union Congress.

President Mahama painted a bright future for the economy, saying projections by respected international bodies, including the World Bank, indicated that the economy would “grow in leaps and bounds,” adding that this was predicated on the hard choices that the government had made.

For his part, Mr Kofi Asamoah tasked President Mahama to see Ghana through peaceful elections.
