GROW supports women groups in Nabdam

Ghana Rural Opportunities for Women (GROW), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) operating in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, has supported 10 women groups in some communities within the district with donkeys, donkey carts and goats.

The communities include Dagliga, Nangodi, Logre, Daasong, Nyobok, Soliga,Yakoti, Zua, Damol-Tindong, Sakoti and Dasalug.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic after the presentation ceremony at Nangodi, the Chief Executive Officer of GROW, Dr Vida Nyagre Yakong, said 10 women groups comprising 20 women in each group were presented with four donkeys, four donkey carts and 70 goats.

She indicated that while the donkeys with the carts were meant to support the women in their farming and domestic work, the goats were a special breed that were meant to be multiplied to support the women economically.

Marginalised women

She said the support was part of GROW’s corporate social responsibility to support majority of marginalised women in the communities.

Dr Yakong said since it was established in 2008, GROW had introduced number of social interventions in the district and pledged to extend it to other communities.

Mr Ben Zoti, an opinion leader in Dagliga, one of the beneficiary communities, lauded GROW’s support for women empowerment and called on other agencies to help reduce extreme poverty in the district.
