Airtel donates phones to support health care

Airtel Ghana has donated 1,500 mobile phones and SIM cards to the Ministry of Health to support the Community Based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) Programme.

The phone cards, worth GH¢70,000 are to be distributed to health workers at the CHPS compounds to aid effective communication between healthcare providers and the referral health centres and hospitals.

The Managing Director (MD) of Airtel Ghana, Mr Philip Sowah, who presented the items to the ministry said calls made with the SIM cards provided would be at no cost.

He explained that Airtel Ghana was determined to help government attain its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5, hence the donation to aid in effective communication, especially, in emergency cases.

According to him, social responsibility was very dear to the heart of the organisation. 

Receiving the items, the Minister of Health, Ms Sherry Ayittey expressed the ministry’s appreciation to Airtel Ghana for the support.

She added that the gesture would go a long way to create a vital link between CHPS compounds and hospitals, as well as health centres in the country.
