The institutions were eight Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS), two health centres and three deprived basic schools.

The items and the money were distributed according to the specific needs of each of the institutions.

Items such as hospital beds, motorbikes and polytanks were given to health institutions to enhance their operations while the deprived schools received money to undertake certain projects aimed at enhancing teaching and learning.

At a presentation ceremony in Accra, a board member of EDAIF, Mr Wisdom Komla Messan, said the gesture formed part of the institution’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The CHPS beneficiaries were the Pokuase CHPS compound in the Ga West Municipal Assembly, Kpone West CHPS compound in the Lower Manya Krobo district in the  Eastern Region, Bomini, Anyanso and Singa CHPS compounds in the Ashanti Region, Kologu and Old Chantai CHPS compounds in the Upper East Region, and Kuukyeliyiri CHPS compound in the Upper West Region.

The two health centres are the Mpohor and Diaso health centres in the Western and Central regions respectively.

The beneficiary schools are the Sacred Heart Anglican School at Amasaman in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region, Kwaboanta School in the Ayensuano District in the Eastern Region and Salvation Army Basic School in the Volta Region.

According to Mr Messan, the beneficiaries were selected after EDAIF had visited their various offices to assess their needs.

“We realised that all the selected beneficiaries had different issues that hampered their operations. Some needed money to complete a project while others were in dire need of equipment to enhance their work,” he said.

Beneficiaries grateful

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Headmaster of Salvation Army Basic School in the Volta Region, Mr Ephraim Dzah, thanked the management of EDAIF for the GH¢12, 000 given to the school to build a toilet facility.

He said the lack of a proper toilet facility for the school made pupils uncomfortable during class hours because the old one which was constructed in 1998 could no longer accommodate the growing number.

“The number of schoolchildren used to be 24 but now it has grown to 206 and this is making it difficult for them to use it,” Mr Dzah said.
