Ensign Global University hands over new maternity block to boost maternal care at Kpong

Ensign Global University has officially handed over a newly constructed maternity block to the Kpong Health Centre, a development expected to significantly strengthen maternal and child healthcare delivery in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality and surrounding communities in the Eastern Region.

The facility was delivered through a partnership involving Ensign Global University, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Manya Krobo Traditional Council, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing gaps in healthcare infrastructure and improving health outcomes at the community level.

Speaking on behalf of Ensign Global University, Professor Stephen C. Alder underscored the institution’s commitment to sustained community partnership, stressing that the project was driven by a shared vision of growth and continuous improvement through service. He noted that the university views community engagement as a core responsibility and an essential part of its mission.

Mrs. Gena Alder reaffirmed the university’s dedication to maternal and child health, explaining that the maternity block project was designed to respond directly to local needs through a sustainable and community-focused approach. She said the initiative demonstrated Ensign Global University’s resolve to contribute meaningfully to healthcare development beyond the classroom.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo, Hon. John Atteh Matey, expressed appreciation on behalf of the municipality, commending all partners involved for their generosity and foresight. He pledged continued collaboration with the institutions and organisations involved to expand access to quality healthcare for residents.

Representing the Konor of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Kpaibitey Nayko II described the new maternity block as the beginning of transformative progress for the Kpong Health Center and the wider community. He reiterated the traditional council’s commitment to working with reputable institutions to promote the health, well-being and prosperity of the people.

President Stephen Manortey, District President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, highlighted the strong collaborative spirit that underpinned the project. He noted that the Church’s donation of equipment to furnish the facility was part of a collective effort involving the community, the Church and Ensign Global University, and emphasised that lasting impact is achieved when committed partners work together.

The new maternity block is expected to improve maternal and child health outcomes, reduce healthcare disparities and enhance confidence in services provided by the Kpong Health Center.
