Minority gives Akufo -Addo three day to distribute ambulances

The minority in parliament has given president Akufo- Addo a three-day ultimatum to distribute ambulances procured under the “One District One Ambulance” programme.

The “One District One Ambulance” programme aims at beefing up the number of ambulances in the country from 55 to at least 275.

Addressing the media in Accra on Thursday, Minority Spokesperson on Health, Kwabena Mintah Akando said some of the ambulances have been packed at parliament, adding that they must be distributed to serve their purpose.

“As a matter of urgency, we are calling on the president to immediately distribute the ambulances that are available so that they could serve their purpose. We are giving the president a maximum of three days to distribute the ambulances”, Mintah Akando said.

The over 300 ambulances bought by the government have been parked at the Parliament car park since they arrived in the country several months ago.

The arrival of the ambulances is part of the fulfilment of a promise made by President Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP Government in the build-up to the 2016 general elections.

Speaking on Accra based radio station Starr FM, Mr Mintah Akandor said the excuse being given by the government to keep the ambulances at the car park are indefensible.

"If you park the ambulances as they have done, I think that we are doing a disservice to the country. From the time these ambulances were packed here till 2020 do you know the number of people who will die because they could not get access to ambulances? I don’t know whether they don’t understand for emergency purpose or I do not understand for emergency purpose”, he added.
