Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo is Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment-designate

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the nomination of Abdul-Rashid H. Pelpuo as the Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment-designate. 

The announcement was made as part of the latest batch of Ministerial nominations, which was officially signed by Felix Kwakye, the President’s spokesperson, on Tuesday, January 21.

Career in Public Service

Abdul-Rashid H. Pelpuo, born on May 15, 1964, has had a long career in Ghanaian politics.

He has represented the Wa Central constituency in the Upper West Region since 2005, initially entering Parliament with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He has previously served in various high-ranking positions, including as a Minister of State at the Office of the President and Minister for Youth and Sports during the late President Atta Mills’ administration.

Under the John Mahama administration, he was appointed Minister of State in charge of Private Sector Development and Public-Private Partnerships, as well as a key member of the Economic Management Team (EMT).

In Parliament, Mr Pelpuo has held roles, such as the Chairman of the Population and Development Caucus and Leader of Parliamentarians for Global Action, Ghana Chapter. His leadership and oversight in these areas have solidified his reputation as a proactive and dedicated public servant.

Educational background

Mr Pelpuo hails from Wa in the Upper West Region of Ghana. He has a diploma in Economics, a degree in Psychology, and a Master’s in International Affairs.

He also holds a PhD in Development Policy from the University of Ghana, which further informs his understanding of policy-making and the intricacies of economic development.

His experience in development policy and his commitment to job creation will be essential as he looks to tackle youth unemployment and boost job security for Ghanaians.
