Ablekuma North NDC inaugurates committees

The Ablekuma North Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated four working committees charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the party wins both the presidential and parliamentary elections in the constituency.

They are the Youth, Zongo Caucus, Women and Communications committees.

The committees are to, among other things, reach out to every home and house with the message of the NDC — a party on a rescue mission.

The members are expected to bring their skills to bear and devise strategies that will ensure that they wrest power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

NPP stronghold

Since the NDC’s Adam Baako Nortey Yeboah won the seat for the party in 1992, the party has lost all subsequent elections to the NPP.

Mr Kwamena Bartels won the seat in 1996 and retained it until 2008. He handed the baton to Mr Justice Joe Appiah who was also Member of Parliament (MP) for the area for two terms.

The seat is currently occupied by NPP’s Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh, who will be contesting on the ticket of the party in the December polls.

Inauguration of committee

Swearing in the new members, the Vice Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Said Sinare, urged them to work extra hard to be able to win the seat for the party.

He charged members of the various committees not to rest on their oars but rather work hard to ensure the party won massively in the constituency in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.

“We cannot afford to be lazy. You have to go out there and convince the people with the message that the NDC has. If we are not able to work hard, we will not win the 2020 elections,” he said.

The inauguration ceremony, which took place at Darkuman Official Town in Accra on February 23, brought together some ranking members of the NDC together with some constituency executives.

Some other notable members of the NDC who were present include the MP for Ablekuma South and former mayor of Accra, Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije; former National Communications Officer, Mr Solomon Nkansah and the National Youth Organiser, Mr George Opare Addo.
