Akufo-Addo to deliver State of the Nation address in Parliament Tuesday

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, deliver the last State of the Nation Address of his first term in office.

This was made known in a press statement from the Public Affairs Directorate of Parliament.

The event is scheduled for 10:00 am, January 5, 2020 at Parliament House.

It is strictly by invitation due to COVID-19.

The State of the Nation address is is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 constitution which states that “the President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before a dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the state of the nation”.

The presentation is also ahead of the President’s inauguration and swearing-in for his next four-year administration as well as the dissolution of the current seventh Parliament.

The Parliament of Ghana has announced a programme outlining activities to dissolve the 7th Parliament and inaugurate the 8th, as well as inaugurate President elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The activities are strictly by invitation, according to a press release issued by Director of Public Affairs, Kate Addo.

According to the release, the current 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana will stand dissolved at midnight of January 6, 2021.

Before then however, President Akufo-Addo will deliver the final State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, 5th January, at 10am before the House.

Then “At 12:01am on 7th January, the Elected Members of the 8th Parliament will convene in the Chamber of Parliament to elect a Speaker and Two Deputy Speakers, in accordance with Articles 95, 96 and 100(2) of the 1992 Constitution, after which the elected Members of the 8th Parliament will be sworn in by the Speaker at the Chamber of Parliament as per Article 100(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

“The President elect will then be sworn in before the 8th Parliament in accordance with Article 57(3) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
