Ashaiman gets new MCE

Mr. Ibrahim Badu, a businessman, has been elected the new Municipal Chief Executive for Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.

 He polled 17 out of 24 valid votes cast during the election held at the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly hall on Wednesday and supervised by the Electoral Commission. There was one rejected ballot.

His haul, almost 70 percent, meets the two-third majority required of him by Article 242 and 243 of the Constitution of Ghana.

Mr. Badu in his acceptance speech, pledged to contribute his best to the development of the town and implement measures to improve the lot of the people, promising, “I will go the extra mile to work hard to see that Ashaiman becomes a better city.”

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr. Julius Debrah, expressed his gratitude to members of the assembly and commended them for their support. He urged them to rally behind the MCE to enable the assembly achieve its development targets.

He said the assembly could count on his personal support anytime the need arose and pledged to contribute his quota to the development of Ashaiman.

A number of residents who thronged the forecourt of the assembly to witness the election sang the praises of the MCE-elect.
