The Ga South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Jerry Akwei Thompson, has explained that the assembly relies on other government agencies before issuing permits to developers.

The specialised agencies are Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), Minerals Commission, Land Title Registry, National Petroleum Authority and Land Valuation Board.

“Once  an applicant  who intends  to embark on any development  project  gets  clearance from these  agencies  and the project conforms to the land use of the area, the statutory authority, which is the assembly, will have no other option than to grant the applicant the development permit,’’ Mr Thompson stated this at a press conference in Accra last week .

The Ga South Municipal Assembly held the press conference to throw light on procedures leading to the issuance of permits. This follows the siting of two filling stations at Weija junction.

Open-door policy

The MCE assured residents of the area of the assembly’s open-door policy.

He stressed that the municipality was ready to receive any suggestions and recommendations that would enhance the discharge of its duties.

He further explained that the two filling stations, which are sited at the Weija Junction, complied with all requirements pertaining to the granting of permits for the construction of filling stations.

Mr Thompson stated that the two stations had fire permits from Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), which enjoined the two stations to install fire-fighting and protection facilities.

Other permits, Mr Thompson said, which informed the municipal assembly to issue the two stations with the permits came from the Petroleum Authority, Environmental Protection and Highway Authority.
