Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ambitious plan to train one million Ghanaian youth in digital skills as part of his policy to create four million jobs if elected President.

Dr. Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 general elections, has outlined his vision to transform Ghana into a digital hub for Africa, equipping the youth with skills to compete on the global stage.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, President Kufuor praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of technology in today’s world and the potential of the proposal to connect Ghanaian youth with international job opportunities.

"He has mentioned that he will train 1 million youth in digital training. You could be here and get an outsourcing job in the USA and get paid," Kufuor said.

The former President also highlighted the crucial role of the private sector in creating sustainable employment, noting that equipping young people with digital skills would prepare them to thrive in a tech-driven global market.

"It is not always that the government has to build factories and employ people. No, it is the private sector," Kufuor explained. "Bawumia’s proposal seeks to give our young people the needed education and skill training so that they can also be ready for the global market."

Dr. Bawumia’s vision aligns with his broader goal of fostering innovation, enhancing economic opportunities, and positioning Ghana as a leader in digital transformation on the continent.
