In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Boye, who holds a degree in Information Technology from the University of Education and a former student of Labone Senior High School, said having lived in the community for a long time, he had identified some development challenges in the area of security, sanitation and recreation, hence his motivation to contest the assembly election.

He said due to the absence of street lights, most places in the community were prone to criminal activity and exposed residents to various forms of danger.

Mr Boye said when elected, he would liaise with the Unit Committee members, as well as the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), to ensure that streets in the community are adequately lit to provide the needed security.

He said he would also mobilise his electorate to contribute funds that would go into the provision of lights to illuminate the area at night and curb the activities of criminals.

Sanitation

He identified sanitation as another huge challenge facing members of his community.

According to him, when elected, with the support of the unit committee members, they would move to tackle the issue by ensuring that households packed their refuse in such a way that refuse companies would be able to pick it without difficulty.

He said he would also hold meetings with the waste collection companies to structure and lift the refuse on schedule to avoid spillovers. "I will also organise regular clean-up exercises in the community to ensure that the place is clean."

He noted that the area had a number of slum dwellers and squatters, adding that when elected, he would integrate such inhabitants in his scheme of work so that instead of them being seen as a security threat, they would be regarded as good neighbours, and impressed upon the people to manage their waste and sanitation situation well to prevent sanitation-related diseases.

Recreation

Mr Boye said another area he would focus on when given the nod would be recreation. He said he believed that recreation could solve so many problems of the community.

He said with access to a good recreational facility, the youth and elderly men and women could be bonded in an effective manner and rallied to contribute to other development efforts in the community.

To that effect, he said, he would solicit funds to construct a multipurpose playing field so that in addition to football, which is currently the number one sport for the youth, others with interest in volleyball, basketball and tennis could be adequately catered for.

"By having the various sports being pursued in the community, I hope to galvanise the youth and the elderly in the community and harness their talents and energy to help develop the electoral area.

"When we are able to come together, we can discuss and agree on a number of things that will push our community forward," he added.
