Mr Odotei said he was hopeful of winning the primaries and ultimately be the representative of the people of La Dadekotopon.

The La Dadekotopon seat, currently held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament, Nii Amasa Namoale, who is serving his third term, was previously held by Mr Ako Nai of the NPP (2001 and 2005). The seat was first won by the NDC’s Sylvester Mensah in 1992 and he served as the MP until he lost the seat in 2000.

According to Mr Odotei, his accomplishment as a successful football administrator puts him in the right stead to win the parliamentary seat to enable him to offer his wide experience and vision for the development of the country.

Mr Odotei, who disclosed his intention to the Daily Graphic in an interview last Tuesday, said if he got the nod to enter Parliament, he would mobilise public spirited persons to transform the La Dadekotopon area, as well as the country in general. “ Ghana needs a new crop of professionals with vast experience and a good track record who are committed and ready to add value and change the face of politics in the country”, he said.

Mr Odotei, aka Obama, said he had been politically active since his days at the University of Ghana when he served as the JCR President of the Commonwealth Hall.

The parliamentary aspirant, who has been the President of the La Youth Association since 1998, implored all citizens of La to support his bid to help transform  their community and provide the much needed amenities for the people.

So far, the 2012 parliamentary candidate of the NPP, Mr Oscar Nii Odoi Glover, is the only person in the constituency who has declared his intention to also contest the NPP primaries.

On the decision of the NPP leadership to reverse the decision that sought to protect incumbent female Members of Parliament, Mr Odotei commended the party hierarchy and suggested that the party should rather ensure a “ protective discrimination not exclusive protection”.

Mr Odotei, 47 years, was born in La, Accra, and is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vallex Group of Companies.
