Ga West Assembly elects PM, MCE
Assembly members of the Ga West Municipal Assembly have for the second time elected Mr Daniel Darko Dodoo as their Presiding Member.
Mr Dodoo, a three-time assembly member for Pokuase Electoral Area, defeated Mr Thomas Okine, assembly Member for the Okushie Blade Electoral Area by 27 votes to 9 in an election supervised by the Electoral Commission.
Mr Dodoo, who served as a presiding member between 2008 and 2010, stepped down for Mr Okine during the last election held in 2012, but staged a successful comeback with the support of the assembly members of the Ga West municipal assembly.
Mr Dodoo is an auditor and was sworn into office by Her Worship, Mrs Emelia Abruquah of the Pokuase Magistrate’s Court.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Julius Debrah, congratulated the new presiding member and urged him to work harder to better the lives of the people in the area of his jurisdiction.
He said since its inception, the assembly had achieved much growth in infrastructure, health and education but insisted that there was more room for improvement.
Mr Debrah, therefore, urged the elected members of the assembly to work towards meeting the aspirations of the people they represented.
It was at the same function that Mr Sam Atukwei Quaye, the Convenor of the Young Democrat, a policy think tank, was confirmed by an overwhelming 31 of the 36 votes cast as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga West.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Quaye commended the members for confirming him as the new MCE and gave the assurance that he was committed to the development of the assembly.
“As a team player I will work harmoniously with all the members and staff of the assembly to ensure that the many challenges confronting the assembly are resolved,’’ he said, adding that he could not do all these without the help of the assembly members and called for their support.
