Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and democratic tenets.
“As a firm believer in democratic tenets, Nana Akufo-Addo's fidelity to the rule of law has never been in question,” he stated.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Office of the former President on news circulating on social media outlets that Nana Akufo-Addo was "considering approaching President John Dramani Mahama to seek assurances of the safe passage for his cousin and former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta."
False
It stated that those publications were false, adding that “it is a total fabrication by the supposed source.”
It stated that former President Akufo-Addo had neither contemplated such a consideration nor expressly or impliedly made any such request or representation to President John Dramani Mahama, his agent(s) or assign(s).
Concerns
The statement noted that while it was true that the fate of Mr Ofori Atta remained of considerable concern to the former President because, after all, apart from Mr Ofori Atta being his cousin, “more importantly, he was the Minister for Finance in both the governments of his mandate”.
It, however, said that concern did not extend to wanting to interfere with the rule of law.
