The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is determined to win all 11 parliamentary seats in the Upper West Region in the upcoming December election.

Currently, the party holds eight out of the 11 seats, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) holding the remaining three in the Lambusie, Nandom and Sissaala East constituencies.

The NDC's presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, who is on a three-day campaign tour in the region, rallying support for his party's candidates, emphasised the need for all NDC parliamentary candidates to be elected to support his "reset agenda" aimed at revitalising Ghana's growth.

Speaking at a mini rally in Nadowli in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency, Mr Mahama urged voters to resist the temptation of voting "skirt and blouse" - a local term referring to voting for different parties for presidential and parliamentary candidates.

Instead, he encouraged them to focus on critical issues such as the high unemployment rate, the depreciating cedi and the economic hardship that had pushed many into poverty and vote the NDC back to power.

Tour

The former President’s campaign train arrived in the Upper West Region last Saturday, with engagements with traditional leaders and community members.

The Upper West Region is crucial to Mr Mahama's campaign, as the region has remained a stronghold of the NDC since 1992.

Mr Mahama’s message to voters has focused on change and development which resonates with the local population as the region remains one of the most deprived in the country.

With the region's rich cultural heritage and potential for economic growth, Mr Mahama promised to improve the region’s road network, currently in a deplorable state, build health facilities and support agriculture through the establishment of Farmer Service Centres across the region.

He said the NDC was determined to make a strong impact if elected to power in December.

Later, he paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Wechiau in the Wa West Constituency, followed by a durbar of chiefs and people at Goripie in the Wa East Constituency.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Mahama stressed the need for inclusive governance and economic empowerment.

The campaign team also held community engagements at Daffiama in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Constituency; Charia and Kpongu, both in the Wa Central Constituency.

Nabullo

Later at Nabullo in the Sissala East constituency , Mr Mahama urged voters in the Upper West region to resist the temptation of voting for smaller parties or independent candidates in the December elections.

He said those dissatisfied with the performance of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) should instead cast their ballots for the NDC.
