Second meeting of 9th Parliament begins today

The Second Meeting of the First Session of Parliament will commence on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, a statement from the office of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has said.

The Speaker, in the statement issued last Monday, May 12, 2025, said the House would reconvene at 10:00 a.m. at Parliament House in Accra.

It is in accordance with Order 58 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which mandates the Speaker to give notice of parliamentary sittings.

This announcement sets the stage for the next phase of parliamentary business, where lawmakers will continue to deliberate on crucial national issues and legislative agendas.

The second meeting signals the restart of parliamentary activities, including legislative debates, committee work, and discussions on pressing national matters.
Parliament went on recess on March 29, 2025.

The First Session

The First Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament commenced on January 7, 2025, and ended on March 29, 2025.

The House held 43 sittings within 11 weeks.

During the period, Parliament considered and passed 16 out of 18 bills presented, including the Electronic Transfer Levy (Repeal) Bill, 2025, the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Appropriation Bill, 2025. Other notable bills passed include the Revenue Administration (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

In addition to legislative work, the House reviewed four annual reports from government agencies, including the Petroleum Funds for the 2024 Fiscal Year and the District Assemblies Common Fund for 2023.

Seventy-two committee reports were submitted and adopted, while one Auditor-General's Report on the Bank of Ghana's foreign exchange receipts and payments was considered.

The meeting also featured significant events, such as the President's State of the Nation address and the presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy by the Minister of Finance.

A total of 134 motions were moved and adopted, 52 questions were asked by Members of Parliament, and 94 statements were made to commemorate important events or draw attention to public issues.

Furthermore, the House vetted and approved 56 ministerial nominees, with some Members of Parliament being suspended for disruptions during the vetting process.

The First Meeting of the Ninth Parliament has demonstrated the House's commitment to its legislative and oversight functions, setting a productive tone for the upcoming sessions.
