Take voter exhibition exercise seriously - CPP to electorate

The Convention People's Party (CPP) has urged all Ghanaians, particularly those who have registered to vote, to take the ongoing voter exhibition exercise seriously and make time to check their viability in the register either in person or electronically.

“Apart from reminding Ghanaians that their franchise is a constitutional obligation, the only way they can be part of a decision to choose leaders to lead Ghana is to vote in the December 7 general election," a statement issued by the National Communications Director of the party, Osei Kofi Acquah, said.

The CPP said the exercise, which sought to correct name spelling, picture calibration, removal of deceased persons, etc. from the voters' register, should have been done with the political parties so that future accusations and pointing of fingers would be avoided.

The party further drew the attention of the Electoral Commission (EC) to the low publicity of the Voter Exhibition Exercise and the need to engage in enough publicity to create awareness.

"Again, we the CPP would have wished that the Electoral Commission had partnered the political parties in this exercise," the statement said.

It said the EC's low publicity of the exercise is concerning and suggested that the commission should have partnered with political parties to sanitise the voter's register.

Recall

The EC commenced the voters’ exhibition exercise last Tuesday, August 20 and will end on August 27, to enable voters to verify their details in the register for the December 7 general election.

The week-long exercise, scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, including Saturday and Sunday, involves all registered voters.

The EC had originally fixed August 1 to 7, 2024, for the exhibition exercise, but rescheduled it due to the mop-up limited registration exercise which took place from August 1 to August 3, 2024.

It said prospective voters could also check their details electronically via short code *711*51# at the cost of 50 pesewas.
